My most recent wedding was in Iowa City, Iowa where I had the opportunity to photograph Leslie and Erika’s beautiful wedding. While I was there, I had a chance to check out where “The Bridges of Madison County” was filmed. If you’re ever in the area, make sure to stop and see the covered bridges.

My First Music Video

This video has been under wraps for a while even though we shot it several months ago. The video is for the band Autovein from St. Louis. It was a one day shoot, filmed with a Canon 5d and 7d. It was a lot of fun to make and hopefully there will be more in the future.

Aubrey and Eddie Engagement Shoot

Aubrey and Eddie are two students at MU in Columbia Mo. I had the opportunity to shoot their engagement photos and we had a really good time finding locations around lesser known parts of town. She is a peace studies major and he is an ancient history major. I’m sure their conversations are full of intellectual rigor. ;-) Hope you enjoy the photos below.

Jon and Amy are one of those couples that make my job incredibly easy, I can press the shutter at any time and I’m sure to capture an authentic moment. Even though this Iowa wedding was north of home, it had a very southern feel to it; great down home charm, amazing light and some incredible barbecue. Big thanks to the super talented Aubrey Callahan for being my second shooter. :-)

Lucky In Love :: Elizabeth and Rich

I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to photograph Elizabeth and Rich’s wedding at Alpine Gardens near Columbia, Mo. Thick forest, lights in trees, beautiful diffused light and fireworks made for great photo opportunities! Huge thanks to the talented Aubrey Callahan for assisting me and to Will Hacker for getting me a loaner camera when mine malfunctioned. This was also the first time I’ve seen scratcher tickets for guests at a wedding, very creative. Not to mention I won a few bucks. ;-)

Lori and John :: Wedding Preview

I had a great time photographing Lori and John’s wedding at Les Bourgeois Vineyards in Columbia, Mo. The scenery there was quite beautiful and the weather, well, we lucked out on the weather. The day before and after were really rainy. This was probably the simplest wedding I’ve ever been to and that made it all the better. It was a very stress free atmosphere and everyone enjoyed the day.

I owe a huge thanks to Aubrey Callahan who was my second shooter for the day.

The 700 Club (no, not that one)

The street address of the house where some of my friends live is 700. Accordingly, they refer to themselves collectively as “The 700 Club,” though not to be confused with that other 700 Club. Three of the four are moving out this summer so they asked me to do a shoot for them so they could have some photos to remember their time together. Naturally, it would be impossible to say no to these lovely ladies, so I obliged.

This is my favorite shot from the day.

One light setup in a medium soft box, swapped a head (because someone always looks the wrong direction), added some photo-shoppery and voila!

On a side note, I have thoroughly enjoyed my Genesis lights but I have serious Einstein envy.

Wedding Season Begins

I assisted my my good friend Drew Woolery with a wedding on Saturday, the first of the season for both of us. I didn’t shoot much though; unfortunately Drew found out that I’m a pretty great light stand so I had to put my camera down for most of the wedding. In between my light stand duties I managed to grab a few good frames though. The reception location at The Terrace on Grand was one of the best I’ve seen, it has a great view that overlooks the downtown Kansas City skyline. Hopefully I’ll get to shoot more weddings there in the future.

New Blog, And Two New Websites

For quite sometime I've been working on a new website and blog design. There are many options when it comes to web sites for photographers and those options demand quite a bit of time and research to determine which is best. I've struggled through everything from designing my own website to forking out a pretty penny for a web designer to do it for me. In the end I settled on a compromise between the two that allowed me to save time and money while still developing a blog and two web sites, one for wedding photography and the other for photojournalism and portrait/music photography. I plan on writing a post later this week describing that process and how it is saving me time and money and how that means more time for shooting. :-)

For now, my wedding photography site is up and finished. My new "main" site will be coming down the pipe soon.
